Exploring Ordinary Lives Through Vintage Postcards
Hidden history, forgotten stories and the strange lives people once mailed in public.

Hidden history, forgotten stories and the strange lives people once mailed in public.

A few months ago, we were sitting in a Rhode Island tavern reading bizarre vintage postcards and trying to figure out what was actually happening in people’s lives decades ago. Then somehow… we got invited to the Boston 2026 World Expo.
In this episode of Postmarked & Tipsy™, we sit down with postcard historian, collector and educator Kathy Alpert to explore the strange, funny and unexpectedly emotional world of vintage postcards.

Postmarked & Tipsy is a storytelling podcast that uncovers forgotten stories, hidden history and the everyday lives of ordinary people through vintage postcards.
Each episode begins with a real postcard and the questions it leaves behind. Who wrote it? Who received it? What was happening in their lives?
From family drama and road trips to strange messages, heartfelt notes and historical mysteries, we explore the human stories hidden in plain sight.
These small pieces of mail offer a rare glimpse into the hopes, worries, relationships and adventures of people who lived decades ago—and remind us that history is often found in the most ordinary places.
• Real vintage postcards and the stories behind them
• Forgotten people, places and moments from history
• Historical mysteries and unanswered questions
• Humor, curiosity and occasional wild speculation
• A celebration of ordinary lives and the stories they left behind

When they're not analyzing decades-old messages, they're usually debating improbable postcard theories in a Rhode Island tavern alongside their unofficial research assistant, DJ Nutz.

Like many of the postcards we explore, the details have faded with time. What remains is a story, a mystery and a reminder that ordinary lives often leave behind the most intriguing questions.
